Camper fun

Cold.
We've come back to the Netherlands to  pick up our camper. All went smoothly and spent two days visiting family. Marianne and Ria in Driebergen (especially nice indonesian/chinese dinner and huge dutch breakfast on Easter Sunday.
Cold. Rain.
Then on to Zoetermeer to visit Marianne and Hans (with kids Jeroen and Eline) as well as Jack (his daughter Leslie and Wisam) and of course dad's sister Tante Nel. Lovely day catching up and complaining about the cold Dutch weather. Camped in a farm camping ground and had trouble with the heating.
Rain. Cold.
Slow start on monday and finally got to Luxembourg late afternoon. Great showers and heated washing rooms at Camping Kockenshauer. No internet access though.
Cold. Rain.
Slow tuesday driving big distances south towards Lyon (about 500km). Had to find a camper service place to fix the gas heating - found one via a Fiat dealer but had to backtrack about 30km. Got that done (bill for the camper owner).
Warm.
Around 6.00pm  went back to Villefranche to find a camping ground that hadn't started it's season yet. Rang another place in Lyon and then sped down the backroads to wifi/ hot shower/gas heating heaven.
Slept soundly.
Sunny periods with a chance of rain.
Today a relatively short 200km trip ended in Vaison la Romaine in the Vaucluse department of Provence.

Camping ground within walking distance to Roman Theatre and great medieval village with ruined chateau up high above the main town. Beautiful cobbled lanes, stairs and ramps took us past cute stone houses and churches, lovely courtyards with basic fountains and deco trees gnarling their way  upwards. At the top a magnificent rocky outcrop with vast views of the countryside including the Alpes Sud and the Tour de France favourite Mont Ventoux. Hope to ride to the top tomorrow...in the van.

  1. Your "camper fun" really wasn't, was it & I simpathise re the cold & rain cause as I'm reading, it is cold & raining here in Port. Still new places & experiences are worth the terrible weather I suppose. Sounds nice where you are at present but I'm surprised that your all not going to attempt the ride up hahaha!xx PJ

  2. Hey Travellers,

Thought you must have been doing the big drive south when you hadn't posted for a while. Mike (who pretends that he is not really interested), kept saying, is there another post today, while acting all disinterested. We never got to Vaison la Romaine, though I would have been interested, and it does sound nice. Another place to add to our growing list for "next time". The weather though doesn't sound too nice, so hope that things improve now you are so far south.

Just for a bit of difference, how about somewhere hot and rainy? Here is the site for Tegan's blog on Costa Rica: neikinu.tumblr.com

Have a good couple of weeks - over half way thru the holiday. Doesn't time go fast on these trips.

  3. pff what a shame the heating did not work, but you are right to keep the bill for the camper owner. We enjoyed your stay at our place with Easter, it was a little short but anyway it was fun. Enjoy your stay in France!
