Holland Veluwe

The Hoge Veluwe National Park has a beautiful forest where you can ride on free white bikes all over the place. There are hilly areas, sand dunes, sand islands, pine forests, grasslands and a variety of wildlife (deer, field mice and woodpeckers were our favourites).
It also is the home of the Kroller-Muller Museum which has a sensational sculpture garden and a modern art gallery which includes a number of Van Goghs. The Japanese tour groups just love Vinnie and crowd around the well-known paintings and then line up for their close-up with each of his best paintings. This is a tradition I have observed several times now.

I found myself studying Van Gogh's "night cafe scene" when a murmur behind me revealed about 20 tourists who had gathered quietly ready for the leaders interpretation and then their photos. It scared me a little as they had crept up. It also scared me in other ways.

Enjoyed our bit of art culture and found the sun shining again outside. More riding followed by big dutch pancake-eating for dinner followed by more riding.

We managed a few rides as we camped within the park and had late evening access on the white bikes. We felt like we were the only ones in the forest. The deer scampered away quickly whenever we disturbed them from their grazing. We thought they looked a little like oversized rabbits with white bottoms and funny hopping actions.

Survived our last night in the camper. Cleaned up the van and got ready to take it back home.
